Smashing Pumpkins – a warming treat for cold weather – rich in immune support

½ cup canned pumpkin

¼ cup raw pumpkin seeds

½ cup walnut pieces

1 small yellow squash, chopped

½ small sweet potato, cooked/cooled, diced

2 celery stalks, chopped

1 teaspoon cinnamon powder

This is a rich, hearty combination. Horses needing extra calories or those needing to maintain their weight would do well with this on a regular basis during times of stress such as cold weather. Taking out the sweet potato portion would reduce the sugars making it a choice for IR/sensitive horses.

Green Meanie – great after an intense workout – minerals, minerals, minerals!

1 leaf of kale, remove stiff center rib, tear into small pieces

8-10 snow peas, chopped

½ medium zucchini, diced

2 sprigs of fresh parsley, chopped (omit parsley for pregnant mares)

¼ green bell pepper, diced (discard seeds)

¼ Annaheim pepper, diced (discard seeds)

1 tablespoon olive oil

Our horses find this really tasty when added to an alfalfa mash. This is a good salad choice for an IR/sensitive horse.

Anna Banana – protein pick-me-up with essential minerals (zinc, copper, manganese, selenium)

½ banana, sliced

2 tablespoons chia seeds

¼ cup raw peanuts or almonds

Pinch of sea salt

1 tablespoon coconut or flax oil

The small amount of banana in this recipe keeps the sugars low. This is a good choice to serve on a limited basis for an IR/sensitive horse.
